8 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR E-ZINE
NEWSLETTER POPULAR & PROFITABLE
Dear Friends,
Do you know what it feels like to finish two huge projects at once? The word relief comes to mind. A surge a pleasure, perhaps. I'm sure you've all felt that way when you've accomplished something big. On Thursday I sent off "the tome" to my editor in New York and "the website" went up. Whew!
For all of you who have been asking me about it, you can now visit me at
http://prsecrets.com. You can find all my past newsletters and lots of free articles to help you stay motivated to promote yourself, our business, product or cause. Today I'll focus on writing. Writing "content" for your own publications and others is always a viable way to get publicity.
Prolific "tome" writer Anthony Trollop sat at his desk for exactly 2.5 hours every morning before going to work as a clerk in the British Postal Department. If the 2.5 hours were up, even if he was mid-sentence, he'd stop. If he had just finished a book and had time left he wrote, "The End," picked up a fresh piece of paper, and started his next one.
You don't need to be this kind of writer to get something produced, but you do need to write. Those of you who want to produce content for your website, the media, your company, traditional publications or to self-publish, sit your rear down in a chair or under a tree and put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. Setting regular time slots and deadlines works well for both producing products and for marketing them.
In your marketing writing you want to do three things to invite people to buy:
- Establish deadlines.
- Create urgency.
- Reward loyalty by giving away freebies.
For example, this is the Last Time you'll be able to take either of my two Learning Annex classes. (1. Deadline). Read the content to find out how to get the media to call you today and boost your business instantly. (2. Urgency).
Feb 7th.
Sell Yourself Without Selling Your Soul
Feb 13th.
Want to be a Millionaire?
I want to reward all the people who have already attended a class by offering you each a free audio tape of your choice (worth $15 in hard money, but actually worth much more. It will save you dozens of hours of grief and aggravation and will give you many closely-guarded professional publicity secrets that will gain you more money and prestige) when a friend or colleague takes either class. Just email me their name and I'll send you a list of available tapes. Don't miss this one-time chance to take your business to the next level. (3. Reward loyalty by giving away freebies).
Incorporate these three marketing rules into your e-zine newsletter to draw people to your site, buy your products or use your service. Read on to find out how to create and promote yours.
Warmly,
Susan

8 Ways to make your e-zine newsletter popular & profitable.
The styles and content of newsletters are as various as the author's voices. Each person's personality is stamped on their content. I know I can count on consistent tone, pacing and subject matter from the newsletters to which I subscribe. They each have their own template which includes the order in which they deliver information, their personal writing style and tone, and something they're selling or an offer of some kind.
Here are 8 things that popular and profitable newsletters have in common that make them work.
You can apply them right now when you create yours.
1. They're short.
Making it a quick read maintains the interest of busy people.
2. They hold to a consistent format.
Keeping your structure constant gives people a sense of security and confidence. If you are going to change something you need to let your readers know--or they'll let you know how they feel about it.
3. They have links.
Providing links to longer length articles or websites gives your audience the choice to read more detailed material on a topic of particular interest quickly.
4. They draw you to their website.
Giving a teaser for something new, free, or exciting to purchase--that readers can only get from your website--makes them eager to visit.
5. They provide useful information.
Imparting knowledge positions you to become a valued resource for your readers who then look forward to learning from you.
6. They highlight the success of others.
Giving your readers the opportunity to hear about people like yourself who are succeeding makes them feel like they can succeed as well. Generate examples that show how clients, friends, customers have used your techniques and show your readers how they can do the same.
7. They cross promote.
Offering to cross promote with anyone you chose opens opportunities for more subscribers or to sell your services and products. Phil Humbert has a newsletter to promote e-zines. (See below URL). The agreement he has with his subscribers is to promote his newsletter to their subscribers.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ezine-resources/messages.
8. They offer products, services, or classes.
Suggesting new things to potential clients or customers allows you to continue and deepen their relationship with you. They can expand their knowledge by buying your books, products, or by using your services. You make more money so you can enlarge your product lines, business or take more time off.
HOT TIP!
Archive your newsletters by succinct titles on your website so your readers and reporters can access them.
Well-written newsletters are essentially tip sheets that a reporter can excerpt for information or quotes. If the title of your newsletter isn't enticing and descriptive of the content, create a one-line teaser so a reporter scanning your site will be able to open the link based on a hint of the information. I recommend putting a disclaimer that states anyone who uses your content must credit you with all of your contact information.

Write and promote your newsletter.
