Friends,
I'm Twittered out.
I socialize on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, & Biznik. I respond
to comments on my examiner.com column, in my LinkedIn groups and
on Twitter.
I don't know about you, but I'm pooped. I have less time to
spend in the garden which is unhappy-making. My friends are
complaining that they don't see me enough, and I feel pulled in
every direction.
Furthermore, I still respond sporadically on the social
networks, like when I can't sleep. On top of all that I don't
know if I'm really making meaningful connections or creating a
loyal following, two things that I want from my social
networking sphere.
What to do?
Social media expert George Kao to the rescue. George contacted
me when I started working with Chris Muccio on my LinkedIn
profile and strategic plan.
He read my
examiner.com columns. Lots of other so-called experts
contacted me to work with me as well, but George impressed me
with his integrity and knowledge so I asked to review his
material to make sure it met the standard of quality I expect
for my followers.

he has done some real due diligence around the whole social
networking sphere. He not only demystifies this very baffling
arena, he gives sound strategies to understand what each venue
can and can't provide and how to manage your time so you'll be
able to utilize each one to further your business, get a job,
make connections, create a following, or find friends.

3 Social Networking Tips
I asked George Kao, to pass on some tips he's NOT going to cover
in the webinar. Here they are:
1. Tip for LinkedIn:
KAO: If you want to add someone to your LinkedIn network
but you aren't a classmate, colleague, friend (yet), or a
business partner (yet), you can still do it. You don't need
their email address either. Just click the "Groups &
Associations" bubble, and select a group that you think might
interest them.
People don't typically read that part of a request anyway.
What's important is the personal note you write in your LinkedIn
request. Take half a minute and write about something you and
that person both have in common. End by saying you hope to add
value to their business/career, and would like to be a LinkedIn
connection. Connect with George here.
HARROW: This warm and fuzzy approach works. I know I'm
more inclined to connect with people if I know something about
them, what we have in common and if they can help me further my
vision in the world. Plus, I'll be more inclined to help them if
I see we share things of importance. One of my pet peeves is
don't ask me to be your friend if I don't know you. I've turned
those down. Tell me you're a colleague instead. Connect with me

2. Tip for Facebook:
KAO: Want to message all your friends on Facebook at
once? You can do it through the Events tool, if you have an
event to promote. First, create friend lists named Z-1 through
Z-10 (the name doesn't matter) and quickly put all your friends,
alphabetically, into these lists, up to 90 at a time. So Z-1
would include your friends with first name "A" through "C",
perhaps, up to 90, and Z-2 might be "D" through "G".
Doing this when I had 1200 Facebook friends only took 45
minutes. It's a one-time activity. Then create the event. You
can now invite all your Z-1 through Z-10 lists to the event, and
message all guests. All your friends will receive the message to
their Facebook inbox, even if they haven't replied to the event
yet. Now that you have your Z lists, you can use them again and
again as needed.
HARROW: The more you can systematize or automate tasks
that you do repeatedly the more time you'll save.

3. Tip for Twitter:
KAO: Are you retweetable? Make sure your tweets allow
enough characters for others to re-tweet you. How many do you
leave? 6 plus the number of characters in your username. For
example, I try to have 125 characters be the upper limit of my
tweets because my Twitter username (GeorgeKao) is 9 characters
so if someone Re-tweets me, they'll write "RT @GeorgeKao: " and
then paste my tweet. Make sure you're re-tweetable too!

viral. If it's not retweetable it's not repeatable. Connect with
