The #1 Thing to Do When You’re Overwhelmed
How to feel free

I’ve been scribbling up a storm. And I feel kind of mute. I was talking to my friend Andrea Scher in her kitchen after our weekly writing group session, and she said she hasn’t been writing much, but doing sound cloud audios for her super popular blog. She’s a prolific (and beautiful) writer, but she’s feeling kind of stuck when it comes to words. So she’s talking. Which comes easily.
I’m feeling the opposite right now. I’ve been wanting to start my podcast, but haven’t been able to motivate myself to record. I have a stockpile of writing which I’ve been working on for months, and I’m all ready to do it – except I’m not.
I keep scheduling “podcast recording days” in my calendar. And I keep finding bigger priorities to shove it down the list.
So, I’m not going to force it. I’m going to keep writing until I feel like going verbal.
But what we often do is keep pushing where it’s hard.

Mary Heiny Sensei, an amazing aikido teacher, said in her last visit to our dojo at Bay Marin Aikido: “We often try a little more of what’s not working. That’s human nature. Instead, put yourself in alignment. Always go where you’re free.”
So look to see where you’re efforting. And stop. Find the place where you’re free and go there.
